Alum Mike Myers appeared today on Live with Regis and Kelly to promote the upcoming movie Shrek, Forever After. During the interview, Myers was asked to name the most influential teacher in his life. Myers responded with two; one was a public school teacher he had during his years in the Toronto school system and the other was our own Del Close, who taught him at The Second City. Myers goes on to say that his time at The Second City proved to be some of the most important years of his life of his life. Del taught him that a true artist "makes things." "So when you ask me what I do," said Myers, "I say I make things."

Earlier this week NBC announced that it was picking up the new comedy, Outsourced for its line-up. This new series is about the Midwest meeting the exotic East in this hilarious culture clash. Parvesh Cheena, a graduate of the Second City Training Center in Hollywood, will star as Gupta, an employee at the new call center.
From writer Robert Borden (The Drew Carey Show) and director Ken Kwapis (The Office) comes a comedy where cultural differences are a novelty.
Mid America Novelties sells products like whoopee cushions, foam fingers, and wallets made of bacon. Yes, this is the stuff upon which the American way of life is built, but try explaining that to someone who lives on the other side of the world.
Well, that's exactly what Todd Donovan must do when he's sent to run the company's call center in India. Talk about culture shock, and not just for Todd's employees. While Todd has to teach them how to make the up-sell to the Deluxe Twin Beer Helmet, he's going to have to adapt as well. Like in a country where cows are sacred, perhaps you don't order a double cheeseburger.
Be sure to tune in and see Parvesh in what is sure to be NBC’s next big hit!

On Saturday night, Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, Faizon Love and Chicago Bears tight-end Greg Olsen came to check out the cast of The Second City Mainstage’s "Taming of the Flu." After the show, the audience enjoyed an unexpected treat when they all joined the cast to perform in the improv set.
Thanks to our generous patrons, The Second City was able to raise $5,000.00 for Comics for Kids, a wonderful program that brings live comedy shows to patients at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto. Dozens of Toronto’s best sketch comedians, improvisers and standups volunteer their time in the program. The following is a letter from Comics for Kids founder Eric Toth.
It's been 3 years of 'Comics For Kids', and I want to thank everyone for coming out and donating their time and talent. These shows not only make a difference for the kids, but the parents and staff need a laugh too.
With the money we made from the Comics for Kids show in March, we're buying the hospital a massive DVD library, so the kids can watch comedy movies while they're stuck in the hospital.
AND...with the money Second City collected from their generous audience, we bought the hospital's theatre a brand new state of the art microphone system (over $5,000!) They had one hand held mic, and a busted lav mic before this. Now they won't feel so embarrassed when they bring in musicians, hockey players, actors, etc to talk to the kids. Plus, it now broadcasts to the rooms, so the kids who can't physically make it down to the theatre can watch shows like ours from their rooms.
So a HUGE thanks to Second City! Specifically Julianne Snepsts, Klaus Schuller, and Coleen Beaton. A big thanks to Jennifer Goodhue for all her hard work! And a huge thanks to everyone who has shared their ability to make people laugh over the years. Good on you! We're always open to new performers, and anyone can sign up at anytime.
Hope to see you at the shows,

The Informant is the tale of Mark Whitacre (played by Matt Damon), an Ivy League Ph.D. who was a rising star at Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) in the early 1990s. The bipolar hero wound up blowing the whistle on the company's price fixing tactics and became the highest-ranked executive to ever turn whistle blower in US history.
The feature film not only stars Matt Damon but also a number of Second City Alumni! In addition to the familiar face of Chicago Alumni Scott Adsit (as Sid Hulse), there's also some of Second City Hollywood's current teachers and performers. There's Samantha Albert (as Mary Spearing), Brian Gallivan (as Ron Henkoff) and Second City Hollywood's Artistic Director Joshua Funk (as FBI Special Agent Robert Grant).
After the success of Giorgio Mammoliti's visit to Second City, other candidates have been signing up for the challenge! The Mayoral candidates will join the cast onstage for an interview and improv set, answering questions about themselves, their vision for the city and so much more!! George Smitherman is up next joining us Friday, May 28th!! Other candidates who will be joining us are Keith Cole on Wednesday, June 16th and Rocco Rossi on Wednesday, July 7th! Stay tuned for more announcements in the days to come!!
If you can't join us for the show and/or set, make sure to follow us on Twitter for all the action @TheSecondCityTO.
